September 2009 Daring Bakers’ Challenge – Hello Kitty Remix
September 27, 2009
The September 2009 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Steph of A Whisk and a Spoon. She chose the French treat, Vols-au-Vent based on the Puff Pastry recipe by Michel Richard from the cookbook Baking With Julia by Dorie Greenspan.

Personally, I’d much rather buy pre-made frozen puff pastry. This takes way too much time and work for something that is so readily and cheaply available. Hello Kittying them, however, was fun.

I think those look incredibly cute. I also thought that I’d buy premade while I was working , now I am not so sure..I have not a scrap left

Thanks! I do agree that homemade ones taste better but so much time needed!
OMG!! How cute!!!
Thanks
I LOVE that you made them into Hello Kitty!!!
I love all things Hello Kitty
Your Hello Kitty’s are VERY cute!
Thanks
OMG–so cute, and I love her eye-patch! Thanks for baking with me this month, even if you won’t give up the store-bought (neither will I, actually).
Thanks! And thanks for hosting the challenge
Its a good cake design.
How cute is that! I too thought the puff pastry was very time consuming. I’m not sure if it is worth it though since I’ve never had puff pastry before. Wonderful job!
I think premade ones are less fluffy and have more preservatives. But cheaper and WAY less time consuming!
it`s just crazy how cute and at the same time absolut delisious they look.
Eeeeeeeeeee! These are adorable!!!!
I love them!

Oh, I didn’t realize those were these when you pointed them out in your pirate photos!
These are so cute! I found making the puff by hand quite time consuming, but it was so much tastier and cheaper than the store stuff!
